PRESS RELEASE: HEADWATERS TOURISM BOARD ELECTS NEW BOARD CHAIR AND RE-APPOINTS VICE CHAIR POSITIONS
Headwaters Tourism Board of Directors is pleased to announce the elections of Maria Britto to Board Chair and Elaine Capes to Vice-Chair.
Ms. Maria Britto has brought her leadership skills and experience to the Boards of several notable and well-respected organizations within the community including Board Chair for the Central West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) serving 1 M residents from 2011-2017. Her board experience extends back to 1997; President of the Brampton Board of Trade; Chair of the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation; Board Member of the William Osler Health System; Town of Caledon, Economic Development Committee including the 2015 Pan/Parapan American games committee; Chair of the Town of Erin, Economic Development Committee.

I am privileged to take on this new challenge and would like to thank my predecessor Stacey Coupland for her guidance and professional expertise for the past 12 years. Together with the Board, we look forward to taking Headwaters Tourism Association into the future with an expanded Global focus and letting our visitors know that we are open for business… always. We are pleased to have our new executive staff on board to share our vision… beyond our borders. ” declared the new Board Chair, Maria Britto.
Maria has been recognized with the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, Citizen of the Year for the City of Brampton and the Business Person of the Year.
From her extensive experience, Maria prefers to be a collaborative leader, working closely with business, government and community organizations to build a positive working relationship to the betterment of the communities she serves.
Elaine Capes, re-appointed to the Vice Chair position for a 3rd year, is also steeped in local community board and public service beginning in 2010 when Elaine was elected as Councillor for the Town of Mono for 2010-2014, up to her latest bid for Deputy Mayor position within Mono for 2018. In addition to her seat on the Headwaters Tourism Board she also fulfills roles as, Secretary and Director on the Headwaters Health Care Foundation Board and President of the Mono Mulmur Citizens’ Coalition, and is past Chair of Family Transition Place.
Ms. Capes base’s her guiding principles on defining a clear path to effecting positive change with wholistic balance between economic development, community needs and protecting the environment.
In addition, Ms. Capes drives the strategy and execution for DC MOVES, an initiative of Dufferin County Community Services and Headwaters Community in Action. Ms. Capes also manages a two-time Headwaters Tourism award winning agri-tourism business at Little Creek Ranch with her family.
The Board is confident in the experience and qualifications of these two executive women to carry on the success of the organization and develop new growth opportunities for Headwaters Tourism moving forward.
Ms. Britto, Ms. Capes and the Headwaters Tourism Board will continue to build upon the successful leadership of the past Board Chair – Stacey Coupland. The Board would very much like to acknowledge and thank Ms. Coupland for dedicating her time and expertise in her commitment to the board for over ten years. We wish her well in her future endeavours.
